I started GreenWave as a way to provide support to former fishermen like me to transition into restorative ocean farmers.
But something unexpected is happening - a huge number of women are reaching out to get involved.
They are emerging at every level, ranging from beginning farmers and entrepreneurs to hatchery technicians and policy experts.
Honestly, as a grizzled former fisherman who has worked in a primarily male industry, this has come as a surprise - but clearly, something new is happening. In response, the GreenWave team (which is itself majority women) has begun asking ourselves: Are women emerging as the leaders of the new blue-green economy? What a fascinating prospect!
Over the next few months, we're going to explore this trend by lifting up the inspiring stories of women in the GreenWave network, and learn how this new generation envisions the future. Krizl Soriano, GreenWave's new Communications Coordinator, is going to be leading this project.
This is new territory for me and I'm eager to listen and learn.
