While GreenWave trains a new generation of regenerative ocean farmers through our Farm Replication Program, we team up with entrepreneurs like GreenWave Adviser Courtney Boyd Myers to scale the demand for regenerative ocean farmers’ crops. With branding and marketing experience in the technology space, Courtney uses her expertise to transform kelp into sustainable food that supports both the oceans and coastal communities.

Courtney grew up snacking on kelp fresh out of the water, and after spending a day on GreenWave’s regenerative ocean farm in her native Connecticut, she was inspired to contribute to the creation of a robust blue-green economy. Courtney organized the “Bike the Shoreline” fundraiser and donated $20K towards GreenWave programming focused on establishing more regenerative ocean farms. Eager to find more ways to get involved, she worked with GreenWave and identified an opportunity in the consumer market to help ramp up the demand for kelp and scale the benefits of regenerative ocean farming. Courtney launched AKUA to become the household name for a whole line of kelp-based foods using sea greens from small, regenerative ocean farms in New England. After collaborating with chefs and food scientists, she landed on kelp jerky as AKUA’s flagship product and continues to research creative uses for kelp.

Courtney finds women to be natural stewards of an industry dedicated to nourishing the planet and nurturing communities; women working in partnership fosters a supportive environment for sustainable industry growth. For Courtney, a rising tide lifts all boats, and she welcomes new talent to innovate alongside her in support of a farmer-owned industry.
